Maui Vacation: Because Your Loved Ones Deserve a Special Weekend Treat

Wondering where to spend your next weekend getaway with your family? Why not book a Maui vacation? This lush tropical island is the second most popular in the Hawaiian chain, and it's easy to see why. From its gorgeous beaches and luxurious resorts to its abundance of outdoor adventures, Maui has plenty to offer people of all ages.

While this island paradise is known as the "Playground of the Wealthy," it's also a great spot for a budget vacation. Booking all-inclusive packages can save you a bundle on airfare and accommodations. Plus, if you fill your itinerary with affordable outdoor activities, you'll have money left over to buy your kids all the souvenirs they could want! Here are a few great ways to save money and have fun during your Maui vacation.

Go Ziplining

Treat your family to a day of ziplining with the Maui Zipline Company. This company is the most family-friendly zipline outfit on the island, offering five tandem lines ranging in length from 300 to 900 feet. You can zip side by side with your family members, taking in sweeping views of mountains, valleys, and the famous Tropical Plantation. Even the little ones can get a piece of the action; the Maui Zipline Company guarantees safe ziplining for kids as young as five!

Tours cost just $90 per person, and last up to two hours. It's important that you take note of weight and age requirements and cancellation policy, fill out the release and waiver of liability form, and make sure that none of your family members is pregnant or has a serious medical condition. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult during the tour. The Maui Zipline Company is located at 1670 Honoapiilani Hwy in Wailuku.

Explore the Caves

Discover the wonders of the underground world in Kaeluku Cavern, also known as the Hana Lava Tube. One of the world's largest lava tubes, the cave is home to beautiful stalagmites, stalactites, and flowstones. You're guaranteed never to have seen anything like this place: the walls, floors, and ceilings look just like melted chocolate! One interesting fact about the cavern is that it's completely uninhabited by insects, snakes, and bats. This makes it a perfect day trip destination for even the most squeamish of visitors!

You can explore Kaeluku Cavern any time Monday through Sunday, between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., for just $11.95 per hour. It's located at 205 Ulaino Rd, about a 3-hour drive from Lahaina, Ka'anapili (West Maui) and Kihei, Wailea (South Maui).

Ride the Sugar Cane Train

No Maui vacation would be complete without a ride on the famous Sugar Cane Train. In the past, the train was used to take sugar cane from the fields to the harbor. Now, it carries tourists along its old route, offering gorgeous views of the countryside and the neighboring islands. See the bustling downtown of Lahaina, the decadent resorts of Kaanpali, and more! The train operates daily from stations in Puukolii, Kaanapali and Lahaina. Be sure to check the website for all arrival and departure times. A round trip costs $22.50 for adults and $15.50 for children three to 12 years old. Children under three years old can ride for free.

However you choose to spend it, a Maui vacation is guaranteed to be a good time for all. Be sure to plan ahead, so you can save money on flights, transportation, and activities. One thing's for certain: after a weekend in this tropical paradise, you and your family will be itching to come back!
