Top Things to Do When You're Staying in Venice

From the moment you arrive at your accommodation courtesy of a Venice Airport water taxi, you will be considering what to do first. With so many superb things to do here, it is worth making a list of those things you don't want to miss out on. Make sure you add the following items to your own 'to do' list.

Make the most of Venice itself

Venice is a knot of streets and canals all intersecting with one another. It is hard to get lost in the city so be brave and forget the map. You are likely to discover many stunning sights simply by wandering around discovering the city by yourself. The city has its popular spots for sure - but it also has squares, winding streets and waterways that are little discovered and equally as charming.

Ride in a gondola along the Grand Canal

If you see no other canals in the city (something that would be very hard to do), you should ensure you see the Grand Canal. Travelling in a Venice Airport water taxi is not the same as taking a gondola ride, so make sure you opt for the real experience once you are in the city itself. The price paid is per gondola and each one can take six people. If you want a romantic ride for two you will pay more pro rata than you would if you were to share the gondola with other people.

Eat at the Taverna del Campiello Remer

Sooner or later you will want to stop and eat - perhaps even as soon as you have disembarked from your Venice Airport water taxi and dropped your bags off at your hotel. If this is the case, head for the Taverna del Campiello Remer. Sit in the courtyard and you will be able to gaze over the Grand Canal as you eat. The buffet lunch is sublime and offers you a huge tray of affettati. This brings you salami and smoked ham to mention just two meats. It is a place to sit and relax and take your fill before taking a walk around the rest of the city.

See St Mark's Clock Tower

There are many famous sights in the city, some of which you will see as you make your approach in your Venice Airport water taxi. But others have to be sought out, and as you make your way to the Piazza San Marco you will be rewarded with the sight of St Mark's Clock Tower, otherwise known as Torre dell'Orologio. You should be prepared to tackle the stairs that will take you up inside the tower itself, but they are worth it in order to appreciate the view from the top. The Clock Tower famously appeared in the Bond film 'Moonraker' in years gone by.

Whatever you want to see in the city, make sure you don't miss out on these classic sights and experiences as listed above. Where will you begin?
