Suffolk, one of England's largest counties, has beautiful villages and encompasses a diverse range of countryside from the seaside to the Broads to woodlands to rolling pastures. It has one of the least-developed coastlines in southern England making for unspoiled beaches.
Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk, is experiencing a bit of a regeneration thanks in large part to its waterfront entertainment district. It's worth walking around just to see some of the marvellous architecture from different eras throughout the town. The Suffolk Leisure Park is on the outskirts of Ipswich and includes a dry ski slope. In 2014 however, SnoAsis will be opening with the world's largest indoor snow ski slope, ice rink, snowboarding half-pipe and other Olympic-type winter sports. Christchurch Park is home to beautiful gardens and the Christchurch Mansion, where you can tour the period rooms ranging from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries and examine the antique toys and games, Lowestoft porcelain, and Constable paintings.
Suffolk's pristine Sunrise Coast includes Lowestoft and Southwold. Lowestoft has one of the loveliest sandy beaches in eastern England and is a regular Blue Flag award winner. It is also the site of a famous annual air show which takes place over the water. Southwold is a sublime seaside town with boutiques, shops, and delis galore.
Felixstowe was once a bustling resort town and is now more of a low-key place to enjoy the seaside. The Felixstowe Ferry area is a great place for a stroll or to rent a sailboat. There is a two-mile long promenade wending past landscaped gardens and shingle beaches. There are also various arcades including the popular Mannings Amusement Park.
Bury St Edmunds is a lovely old historic market town famous for its floral displays. Admire the beautiful flowers and lawns of the Abbey Gardens and wander the ruins of a Benedictine monastery.

There are over three hundred listed buildings in this one village. Orford features a beautifully preserved fortress built by Henry II in the 12th century. Ely's cathedral is famous for its octagonal tower and magnificent spires. Sutton Hoo is a fascinating place for history buffs- it was a burial ground for Anglo Saxon Kings and even an undisturbed ship burial.
Suffolk is a great place for walkers, cyclists, and nature lovers. It is also a great place for fresh seafood. It is even the place to be in England for UFO buffs. Rendlesham Forest, just west of Orford, was the site of Britain's most famous UFO sighting. In 1980 several military personnel saw the mysterious lights of a UFO in the skies over Rendlesham Forest, and then watched it land. You can follow a trail to the alleged landing site and even let the kids burn some energy at the UFO-themed playground. Of course, you can take regular hikes as well.
