A Few Great Reasons to Visit Jordan

If you're looking for less traditional family activity holidays then you may have come across trips to Jordan already and if you haven't considered it, you should. Jordan holidays offer up the chance to visit one of the world's most interesting countries, packed full of ancient history, fascinating culture and breath-taking natural wonders. This article takes a look at a just few of the great reasons to visit this beautiful country.

The Dead Sea

Probably the region's most famous natural feature, the Dead Sea has drawn visitors for thousands of years. The sea is touted as having healing properties, its waters rich with minerals and salts. The salt levels in the Dead Sea are almost ten times higher than regular sea water leading to its second fascinating property, the increased levels of buoyancy. The sea is also one of the lowest geographical places on the planet, baring those underwater of course, with an elevation of 400 meters below sea level.

Wadi Rum

Often seen as a more 'interactive' version of the Grand Canyon in the United States, the spectacular Wadi Rum Canyon is a great destination to head to for a dose of outdoor activities and stunning scenery. The Wadi Rum is famed for its excellent rock climbing and hiking, with thousands heading here every year to explore its challenging terrain. If that all sounds like a little much, there are other great ways to explore the beautiful scenery; from 4x4 tours to camel rides, there really is a way for everyone to get the most out of the Wadi Rum.

Petra

A trip to Jordan wouldn't be complete without a stop at one of the region's most famous ancient sites, the stunning city of Petra. Petra is known world wide for its impressively preserved ancient buildings, it's listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, many of which date back over 2,000 years. The settlement was originally populated by the Nabataeans people of northern Jordan and was well known as a centre of refined culture and architecture. The site today has numerous tombs and buildings to explore, many of which are carved into the surrounding cliffs.

This is obviously just a small taste of all that this stunning ancient land has to offer, there really is so much more to discover in Jordan. So next time you're looking for a great adventure holiday with a historic twist, why not take a look at Jordan?
