Superb Trips to Enjoy in Grenada

No matter which of the many delightful Grenada hotels you decide to stay in, you won't be far from some of the best attractions Grenada has to offer. The island provides a wide range of things to see and do, so whatever you have in mind for your island holiday you are sure to have a superb time.

Take a look at some of the following highlights and trips you can enjoy while based in one of the superb Grenada hotels.

Visit the Chocolate Company

If you like your chocolate organic and dark, this chocolate factory is an absolute must see. You can enjoy tasting and buying bars from their current range of six, including 60%, 71% and 82% chocolate, depending on your taste buds. The 60% chocolate is also available with cocoa nibs in it, or alternatively you can try something different - the 71% bar can be bought with Himalayan mineral salt in it too!

Swim near the Seven Sisters Falls

The island is blessed with waterfalls in several places, but the Seven Sisters Falls are among the most beautiful of them all. They splash into a large pool at the foot of the falls, and many people take the opportunity to jump in for a refreshing swim. This is particularly heavenly if you have opted to hike to the falls through the rainforest. Whether you actually get any rain or not doesn't matter - the forest is just as beautiful as the destination you are heading for.

Relax on the Grand Anse Beach

Many Grenada hotels are very close to some of the island's most stunning beaches. But the Grand Anse Beach is regularly mentioned as one of the finest of them all. Even if you don't want to relax and do a spot of sunbathing you have two miles of perfect white sand to wander along. If the beach seems familiar to you it could be because it is often used to promote the island itself. One look and you will see why.

Explore the city of St George's

You cannot visit the island without seeing its capital city. You will find it located towards the south west, and it is a popular day trip for those tourists who visit without staying in one of the Grenada hotels in St George's. If you are an experienced hiker you can hike up Mount Qua Qua to see the city from above - it affords you a spectacular view. St George's also has a harbour and there is a fort nearby, unsurprisingly called Fort George. You can also find out more about the island as a whole by visiting the National Museum, which is located in barracks dating back to the early 1700s.

As you can see, a holiday to this gorgeous island can produce many exciting activities to get involved with. From swimming underneath waterfalls to exploring museums in its capital city, you will never run short of amazing things to see and do.

Bali - Island Of The Gods

By the final quarter of 2011 Bali had experienced a surge in foreign arrivals of nearly 12%. Bali is an island offering anything we want to make of it. There are so many things to do and acquaintances to be made. Bali is essentially a reflection of what the individual brings to the island. If you play golf, you may see only the fairways and greens through the entirety of your stay.

You may be equally happy if you choose to spend your time in pampered luxury, completely impervious to the myriad of attractions the island has on offer. If your visit has purpose, to ride the surf, dive the wrecks, raft the rivers or climb the volcanoes there will be no adrenaline disappointments.

Bali is a meeting place or extremes. A place where cutting-edge movers and shakers mix hand in hand with the custodians of an ancient culture coming to grips with the constant evolution of its existence. Life in modern day Bali is about finding the balance between these two vastly different worlds.

The Bali that so many of us have come to love began in the rice fields many centuries ago. From such simple origins come very elaborate family and community structures. This is critical to understand in order to better understand the island and its people. The guaranteed outcome of such comprehension is a greater love for Bali and her people.

To the Balinese nothing stands of more value than the family. The very old and the very young are cradled and spoiled in Balinese culture. The first thing a little girl is taught at school is how to make a broom from the wisps of coconut fronds. This is just one example of how important the simple aspects of life are to the Balinese people.

Bali's fame and occasional notoriety has often been of a scale much larger than its own physical size. More than 2000 years ago Bali flourished as a major player during the Bronze Age. Perhaps the islands most unrecognized accomplishment is the carving of an intricate layout of tumbling rice terraces from an overgrown tropical jungle.

Though often ruled over the centuries by outside forces, the Balinese heritage has remained proud and influential through ancient and modern times. The Javanese developed dominion over the island in the 12th century and it was not until the 15th that the Balinese people regained independence. Since then the island has found itself in the hands of several masters including the Dutch and Portuguese.

By the early 1990's Bali was centre of the international tourism stage. Mass tourism in the form of millions of arrivals brought the power of the dollar to Bali and every major hotel chain operated at least one property. Bali was responsible for the development of a new breed of luxury tropical resorts inspired by Sanur's Tanjung Sari Hotel.

Subsequent developments akin to the Tanjung soon appeared including the Amandari and Four Seasons resorts which both held the title of world's best resort. Bali was setting a new international standard for luxury accommodation and service, something that has continued to this very day.

Modern day Bali is a destination for discerning and everyday travellers. Catering for the needs of all, the island is and will remain for years to come one of the premiere holiday destinations on earth.

A Guide for Expats and International Students Living and Studying in London, UK

Recent years show a steady increase in the number of international students looking to obtain higher education in the UK, focusing mainly on studying in London, as well as a raise in the number of foreign nationals living in London as part of their employment training and management requirements. This guide will focus on useful information and tips for both the international students in the UK and the large community of expatriates in London.

About London:

Rich in history and heritage, London provides a blend of past and present. With roots dating as early as 43 AD, when it was built by the Romans and named at that time Londinium, London has grown and developed with time to the huge multicultural metropolitan it is today and of the three most important financial centers in the world.

London is situated on the River Thames and with a population of close to 8,000,000, it is the largest city in the European Union. With strengths in almost all leading research and life style aspects of life, London is renowned as a global cultural capital, with more languages spoken in the city of London than in any other city in the world.

London is divided to boroughs and districts. Greater London is the top-level administrative division of England covering London. It is divided into 32 separate London boroughs, each governed by a London borough council, and the City of London, which has a unique government. (total 33 boroughs). The 33 boroughs of London are divided into 14 Inner London boroughs and 19 Outer London boroughs.

The largest industry in London is finance, with more than a half of the UK's top 100 listed companies and more than 100 of Europe's 500 largest companies have their headquarters in central London. The five major business districts: the City, Westminster, Canary Wharf, Camden & Islington and Lambeth & Southwark.

Tips & Info for living in the UK:

UK Student Vida:

All international students from outside the EU need to have a student visa. The granting of a UK students visa is based on a system called Tier 4. In order to apply for a student visa, 40 points have to be counted under the Tier 4 system. These points are gained with a confirmation of acceptance for studies (also known as CAS, which is valid for 6 months from the date issued by your institution) from a border agency approved university in the UK and a proof of sufficient funding for the tuition fees and living costs. The application for the student visa must be submitted within minimum 3 months before the start of the approved courses.

Transportation in London:

London is easily accessible by all means of public transportation. You can travel in and around London by the tube, train, bus and the Light Railway (DLR). You should notice that although easily accessible by public transportation, it might get a bit expensive, so it is recommended to plan your expenses in advance by paying attention to these tips:

Buy travel cards - these can be used on the tube lines, buses and trains and offer high value discount compared to individual tickets.Make sure your travel card if for the tight travel zone - London is divided to 6 travel zones (where zone 1 is the most central one).Oyster card - A London wide travel card which offers discounts on buses, tube lines, DLR, ferry and train fares. For students who plan to use public transport often, getting an Oyster is highly recommended.

Taxis in London - though more expensive than the public transportation routes, sometimes you will need to travel by taxi. You can either order one from the street, or simply send an SMS with the word "CAB" to 60835 and you will get back the contact numbers for a cab in the area.

Expenses & living costs in the UK:

In most cities in the UK the living costs are not high. However, London is one of the more expensive cities in Europe and the average living costs vary significantly between its different areas. A major factor in preparing a budget for the required costs of living in the UK will be the accommodation factor. Since the accommodation in London gets very pricey at the central of the city (zones 1 and 2), many foreign nationals who live in London choose the more outer areas for their residence.

For international students in the UK, the UKBA (the UK Border Agency) requires a budget of at least£800 per month for living in the outer London areas. These amounts are required for covering only the living costs and do not cover the Tuition fees in the UK which Vary between £4,000 and £22,000 annually (average of £11,000 per year).

Although an expensive city, London provides a cost-effective studying experience as many part time jobs for students are available in the city. In addition, many attractions, events, lectures and academic seminars are held for free or given at very low prices for the tens of thousands of international students and professionals residing in the city.

Medical care in the UK:

International students in the UK whose courses last more than six months are entitled to receive treatment from the UK's National Health Service (NHS) for no additional charge.

Expats, which do not have EU passports and are living in the UK will need to obtain from their employers an extended medical insurance. If living in the UK longer than a year then it is possible to receive free NHS treatments pending registration with a local doctor.

Night life:

Night life in London is famous worldwide for its diversity and intensiveness. It ranges from being a global capital of club scenes to the more localized neighborhood pubs and student bars with a taste for everyone. For those looking for the more upscale cocktail bars, a stroll down South Kensington or Walton street will provide an opportunity to mix with the Chelsea crowed.

Sightseeing in London:

With the third most international visitors in the world, four UNESCO landmarks and scores of historical, contemporary and diverse locations, London offers unparalleled scenery features. Some of the major sightseeing landmarks for a vacation in London are: Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Big Ben & The House of Parliament, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park, Tate Modern, Trafalgar Square and Tower Bridge.

Going On Holiday? Make Sure You Do Some Cultural Research First

Escaping the monotony of daily life on a well-earned break is alluring to anyone. Whether you want to relax on a beach on an exotic island somewhere in the South Pacific, or you prefer the challenge of an adventure break in the Himalayas or one of Patagonia's famous national parks, there is nothing that stirs excitement and anticipation like the prospect of a holiday.

So therefore, you want to do everything in your power to make sure that you are aware of any events that may take place in your destination while you are there, how stable the region is politically and how tourists are viewed and subsequently treated by local residents and business owners. If there is an area of the town you should avoid, wouldn't you want to know about it before you go rather than learning the hard way? Exactly.

That's why you should start viewing websites that cater to the holiday travel industry and searching for your holiday destination, the name of your hotel or resort and any other pertinent local news that may be relevant. The best source of information for the political and safety aspects of travelling is the Foreign Office's website. This site lists all potential destinations for British holidaymakers and advises on whether travel is recommended or not. If travel to your proposed destination is listed as not recommended, you should sit down and consider whether you want to risk your personal safety just to tell people in the future that you've been somewhere. Your holiday may have cost a lot money, but can you honestly put a monetary value on your personal safety?

If you are travelling to the Middle-East, central or southern Asia or South america, it is also worth reading up on local customs. Even a simple hand gesture can have a different meaning in a different continent, for example, the hand gesture that represents the term 'OK' in various English speaking societies is extremely offensive in Brazil. Knowing about these customs and traditions can make all the difference between a good time and some awkward situations!

A relaxing or exhilarating break can be a great remedy for weary bones, provided you respect the place you are visiting. British tourists that visit holiday resort towns along the Costa del Sol in Spain and certain Greek islands have given the British holidaymaker a bad name in some parts, with boozy antics and general bad behaviour souring relationships with places that once welcomed families for their annual breaks.

By doing a bit of research and learning a little about the history of the area before you travel and showing your respect once you arrive, the reputation of the UK traveller can once again be restored. Just don't mention the Empire!

If you are planning your summer break and would like to catch up on the latest holiday and flight news, visit Holidayspress.com. Whether you are looking for weekend breaks or something longer, the latest news about your destination is only a mouse click away.

Enjoying The Mountain Wilderness In Every Season

It's not every day where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and enjoy the mountain wilderness with nothing to disturb you. Whether you are on a vacation or a brief weekend outing, you want to make the most of your time in these serene outdoor surroundings besides listening to bird song and watching the bees fly by.

By finding ways to enjoy the mountain wilderness a few times a year in different ways can keep you both entertained as well as fit. Before you enter the area, always make sure you carry maps and know your location if you are not using designated camping grounds or if there are no marked trails. You'll want to make sure you've got water, a cell phone with a GPS, a first aid kit and some flares in case you get lost or injured.

Fall Foliage-

With Autumn's changing leaves, Fall is a great time to relax in the outdoor surroundings while looking at the colorful foliage. When you hike and bike on the trails with your family, you'll love taking amazing pictures of the scenes you'll come across. You can also have fun mountain climbing before the weather starts to become too harsh.

Winter Wonderland-

Don't avoid the mountains and forest when the snow starts to fall Even when the snow starts to fall, don't abandon your mountain retreat because you'll miss the best part. Winter is a great time to break out the skis and snowshoes. The trails you went hiking on during the summer become amazing cross country ski slopes or snow board lanes. These outdoor activities can fight off the cabin fever as well as help you lose those holiday pounds as you keep in shape year-round.

To take your fun to the next level, try running the trails with snowmobiles to really invigorate your senses. Keep to the trails marked for snowmobiles or share trails with other outdoor enthusiasts while driving safely.

Spring Into Fun-

For a truly amazing experience and for a great time to relax for everyone in the family, Spring is perfect. Camping is a great bonding experience where you can laugh and share stories with the family. Take time to explore the mountains as they are reborn in the Spring and maximize the bonding time with your family at the same time. Spring is also a great season to get your fishing line in the water. Find a quiet dock by the lake or a rushing stream filled with spawning fish. Take out your rod and reel to catch the whale of a fish that you will brag about to family and friends.

Beat The Summer Heat-

Cool off from the summer heat by enjoying your outdoor surroundings in the mountain wilderness. You'll find it several degrees cooler from the cramped buildings in the city and can always find a watery spot to soak your feet. Find a pond or stream to engage in a bit of swimming. If you are looking for some adventure, you can go on a kayaking tour down the river or have some fun doing white water rafting.

Enjoy The Outdoors-

To tell the truth, it really doesn't matter what season you want to experience the mountain wilderness because you'll always have fun. Breath in the fresh air and have a relaxing time with your family. Don't be afraid to try new activities that you may enjoy.

Colorado River rafting is one of the best ways to enjoy the mountain wilderness. When it comes to Colorado rafting, Walter Oshea prefers Breckenridge rafting above all other options.

Paradise Found: Walking Holidays in South Africa

Say the words 'South Africa' and people immediately conjure a paradise of diverse culture and untamed beauty. Archbishop Desmond Tutu described South Africa as 'the Rainbow Nation'-a name very much befitting its diverse people and rich culture, not to mention its riotous natural splendour.

South Africa is a country that is on many people's 'bucket list' for good reason. Considered the most modern country in Africa, many of its rural areas nevertheless have preserved true African culture, with entire villages still living in huts and following the traditional ways of life. For example, in many villages, the tradition of men paying dowries for their brides persists, and cattle are still considered the main measure of wealth. It is a country with undeniable historical significance, and serves as testament to freedom and human equality. It is a rare combination of modernity and tradition, development and untouched landscapes, and progress and wildness that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

Due to its wide biodiversity and its spectacular scenery, walking holidays are especially popular here as they allow travellers to soak up the culture and be as closure to the glory of nature as possible. Listed below are some of the places that should not be missed during your walking holidays in South Africa.

The Eastern Cape's Wild Coast

The Wild Coast stretches from the Mtamvuna River in the north to the Great Kei River in the south. Composed of primarily untamed wilderness, this spectacular coastline features jagged cliffs, sheltered coves, virgin beaches, rolling hills and valleys, and ancient forests. Its natural beauty makes it an ideal area for walking holidays-in fact, one can see the entire coastline on foot via the Wild Coast Hiking Trail. This area is especially pleasing to birdwatchers due to the more than 320 species of birds that can be found among the cycads and yellowwood trees, as well as to fishing enthusiasts, who can choose between deep sea, rock, surf, fly and spear fishing.

The Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve

Also known as the Deep Green Canyon, the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve in Mpumalanga is another must-visit site for your walking holidays in South Africa. The canyon covers 29,000 hectares and is the third largest canyon in the world. Here, you can have access of spectacular vistas encompassing verdant forest canopies, majestic cliffs, and glorious waterfalls throughout the year - such as the view from God's Window or the Pinnacle, a single quartzite column rises skyward from a wooded canyon. The area surrounding Blyde River Dam is home to more than a thousand species of flora, which means that, in the springtime, the canyon is carpeted with wildflowers of every shape and colour. The canyon is also teeming with birds and animals, including the Verreaux Eagle, the Bald Ibis, Vervet and Samango monkeys, Chacma baboons, and Bushbabies.
Kruger National Park

If you're all about big game such as lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffalos, in addition to other bird and wild life such as the Crowned Eagle, the Wattle-eyed Flycatcher, the Bohm Spinetail and the Pels Fishing Owl, Kruger National Park is a can't-miss spot on your South African walking holidays. For those who prefer to humans and human history, you can check out sites where homo erectus walked and lived well over a million years ago, or spend some time with the Makuleke people, upon whose ancestral lands this majestic park is located.

Tony Maniscalco is the Sales and Marketing Manager for Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. Join us on walking holidays to see scenic locations & landscapes at the best value prices. We offer over 250 guided group walking holidays in over 65 different countries.

Why Choose the Loire Valley for School Music Trips?

The Loire Valley is renowned as one of France's most beautiful areas and is visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. Many of them come to see the historic towns and chateaux, which also help to make the region a perfect destination for school music trips.

Students can build confidence and develop their skills by performing in public, as well as gain a lifelong love of music. It helps if you can arrange some inspirational settings for the concerts and there are lots of them to choose from in the Loire Valley.

Use a specialist to organise your tour and you will have access to a variety of old churches and grand chateaux with performance spaces for choral and instrumental groups. They are the sort of places your students may never have the opportunity to play in again, so it is guaranteed to be a fond memory for them.

Among the locations is the cloister of L'Abbaye Toussaint in Angers. A church has stood on the site since 1040, but the structure you will see today is the result of an extensive renovation project undertaken in the 1980s after the abbey fell into disrepair and the site was bombed during World War II.

Take a tour of the museum on the site to learn more about its history and see a collection of works by the sculptor David d'Angers. That should put your party in the mood to perform in the cloister, surrounded by a beautiful building.

School groups are also welcome to play or sing in the magnificent Cathedrale Sainte Croix d'Orleans. The Gothic building was constructed between 1278 and 1329, but has since undergone a number of extensive renovations.

One of them involved fitting stained glass windows that tell the story of Joan of Arc in the nave. She is closely associated with the cathedral as she is known to have attended mass there during the Siege of Orleans, when she led the French army to a victory over the English.

You will discover a number of the Loire Valley's grand manor houses are happy to welcome choirs and orchestras, including Chateau de Blois. Once a lavish royal residence, it is now a museum and stages musical performances for visitors throughout the spring and summer.

King Francois I's extravagant hunting lodge, Chateau de Chambord, is another stunning venue where musicians can play. Whether your party performs in one of the many grand rooms inside the vast Renaissance-style house or in a courtyard, it will be a unique experience for the students.

To arrange perfect school music trips, get in touch with Equity School Travel, the specialists in educational visits.

Discover Turkey's Lycian Way on Foot

The Lycian Way in Turkey is a long-distance walking trail that links Fethiye to Antalya, covering some 500 km along the way. The path follows the coastline, providing stunning views and allowing you to visit secluded bays and quiet villages as you stroll.

If you choose to book a walking holiday in Turkey in the area, you won't have to tackle the entire trail if you don't want to, as there are several shorter options that see you join the route partway through. One such itinerary will take you from Kayakoy to Kalkan over the course of a week, with plenty to see as you stroll.

There are numerous historical sites along the Lycian Way and you will pass a few if you follow this path. On your first day, you can discover the ghost village of Kayakoy, which was abandoned in 1923 when all the Greek residents were forced out. Empty homes, schools and churches stand side-by-side here and, as you walk through the village and up the hill behind it, you will be greeted by wonderful views of the Aegean Sea below.

Another fascinating place to visit is Patara, a stop near the end of your journey. This city dates back as far as 5 BC and there are many ruins in and around the settlement that are indicative of its illustrious past. Hundreds of years ago it was an important sea port, while it is also said to be the birthplace of St Nicholas. The gated city walls, parts of which are still standing today, are impressive to look at, while the half-buried ruins in the sand dunes behind the city's beach are amazing to explore. You will feel like a true adventurer as you come across sections of column, cobbled streets and broken pieces of pottery in among the sand.

The ruins of Xanthos are another must-see sight on your walking holiday, with the remains of the Triumphal Arch among the most striking structures still remaining. The city was once the capital of the Lycian Federation, and it played an important role in the region until it was abandoned following a series of Arab raids.

History is not the only thing you will discover as you walk along the Lycian Way, though, and the region's natural attractions are equally spectacular. An excellent example of this is the Valley of the Butterflies, which is best visited between June and September when thousands of the winged creatures can be found in the sheltered area. Numerous species in all manner of colours gather in the valley, coating the trees, rocks and plants. It is amazing to see the insects take flight in large groups, creating vibrant patterns in the sky.

There are also several secluded beaches you can visit during your walking break - including the stretch of sand at the end of the Valley of the Butterflies. This particular beach is unspoilt by development, making it the ideal spot to sit back and relax after you've enjoyed the trail leading from the village of Faralya through the valley. Near Kayakoy, meanwhile, you can access a lovely bay that is lapped by a calm lagoon, which is perfect if you fancy taking a dip in the sea.

With so many things to see and interesting spots to visit along the way, a walking trip on the Lycian coast will be one you remember forever.

If you are looking for relaxing walking holidays in Turkey, consider following part of the Lycian Way. By doing so, you can combine history and nature on a beautiful break by the coast.

What to Look for in Lodging Choices

On the road and looking for lodging? Or planning to travel and need lodging in the towns you're headed to? In this day and age, the lodging choices a person has are more varied than ever. Lodging ranges from motels and cheap hotels to bed and breakfasts that feel like home to upscale hotels that offer the ultimate comfort. The trends in the hospitality business these days are to offer the widest range of choices possible in the lodging world. And you can get the news on these trends just by looking online.

Online sources of lodging news are plentiful. Of course, most people are more interested in finding their choice of lodging and booking it rather than just reading the news. But people who travel a lot can do well to keep up with the news as it can provide tips on the latest in lodging and policies that are changing in the lodging business. People with frequent travel needs can benefit when they choose an accommodation if they're aware of the latest policies in the business. So, if you do travel a lot and you think you can benefit from knowing the trends in the hositality business, keep an eye on the industry web sites that track the latest news and policies.

But, of course, most of us are just looking for an accommodation that suits our needs. And those needs can vary widely. When on business travel, we're probably looking for an accommodation that is close to where we're doing business. The rest of the details may not be too important, so cheap hotels would fit the bill. Road travel will often make use of motels, since after all they're called motels because they are designed as motor hotels to provide accommodation for people on the road in their motor car. Yes, an old term whose origin has largely been forgotten.

When travel involves the spouse, it's often good to choose lodging such as bed and breakfasts. These inns provide an accommodation with the comforts of home in a location that's often quieter than motels or hotels. Sometimes bed and breakfasts are located in the downtown area of a popular city to provide additional hospitality to those whose business travel forces them spend time downtown. Bed and breakfasts can be a nice accommodation to get away from the rush of a business day by enjoying the hospitality of home when the day is done.

But business travel is most likely to make use of an accommodation that is more business like. Motels and hotels provide more business like hospitality, with enough comforts to get a good night's sleep. But business lodging often needs to have business accommodation such as office space and high speed internet. Most motels and virtually all hotels offer this kind of lodging, so they're often the first choice for business travel. Whatever your choice for lodging nowadays, the trends in the hospitality business are to meet those needs.

When travel involves the spouse, it's often good to choose lodging such as bed and breakfasts. These inns provide an accommodation with the comforts of home in a location that's often quieter.... Learn more at hotel and hotel

Student Group Travel To Los Angeles - The Star Treatment

"Hooray for Hollywood! That screwy, bally-hooey Hollywood!" Have you considered student group travel to Los Angeles lately, or are you among the many others who think that this trip is just too far away and way out of your reach? Well, we have some very good news to share, as the "City of Angels"has once again become one of our top student friendly destinations. With history and glamour, beaches and mountains, theme parks and movie studios, your biggest challenge will be trying to fit everything into your visit. Start saving today for your group to take a trip to the West Coast to see just why everyone loves L.A.!

Any trip to Los Angeles should start with a visit to Hollywood. Grauman's Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame are the cornerstones of historic Hollywood. You can catch a red carpet movie premier, take in a broadway style show at the Pantages Theatre or a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. The recently renamed Dolby Theatre (formerly the Kodak Theatre) is home to the Academy Awards each year and offers daily tours. Currently you can see the latest Cirque du Soleil production, IRIS, playing for sold out audiences at the Dolby Theatre, which is quite impressive as the theatre seats 3,332 and boasts one of the largest stages in the world at 113 feet wide by 60 feet deep. Then travel to West Hollywood for a visit to The Grove, the area's hottest spot for shopping and dining. And, of course, you must visit Beverly Hills to buy a map of the stars homes and do some window shopping on Rodeo Drive.

Our student groups love to visit the amazing theme parks around Los Angeles. Universal Studios Hollywood is an incredible theme park, as well as a working studio. This summer they open their newest attraction, Transformers: The Ride-3D, based on the blockbuster movie series. Transformers: The Ride-3D is an immersive, next generation thrill ride blurring the line between fiction and reality. Not too far away in Anaheim, Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure are about to celebrate the opening of Cars Land, based on the popular animated PIXAR feature CARS. Cars Land is 12-acres of high-octane fun for the whole family! Your groups can rev it up with brand-new attractions, including Radiator Springs Racers, Luigi's Flying Tires and Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. Knott's Berry Farm and Six Flag Magic Mountain are also close enough to visit for a day, as well as many great water parks.

For another great option on your itinerary you can take your pick of miles of incredible beaches which are located within minutes of the city. Just off of Santa Monica beach, the world-famous Santa Monica Pier offers a variety of entertainment and shopping including Pacific Park amusement park and a historic 1922 Merry-Go-Round. Vesak in Sri Lanka

"Vesak" is the most religious festival observed by Buddhists, specially the Theravada Buddhists worldwide.

As over 70% of Sri Lankans practise Theravada Buddhism, Vesak is the biggest Buddhist Festival in Sri Lanka.

"If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs, it would be Buddhism" ~ Albert Einstein

The exact Vesak day varies according to the lunar calendar. The word Vesak derived from "Vesakha" in Pali or "Vaisakha" in Sanskrit, means the first full moon day of the 5th lunar month, namely the month May.

The significance of Vesak Full-Moon day is to celebrate the birth of Prince Siddhartha, the clan name of the Gautama Buddha Shakyamuni in Lumbini, more than 2500 years ago, his Enlightenment (Nirvana) under the Bodhi Tree at Buddha Gaya at his 35 years and his passing away (Parinirvana) at the age of 80, in Kusinagara in India.

Similar to all full moon days, the monks and nuns meditate and chant hymns in praise of the Holy Triple Gem; The Buddha, The Dharma (his teachings) and The Sangha (his disciples). Also, they recite "Sutras", records of the oral teachings of Buddha, to invoke blessings and happiness to all beings.

Devotees bring offerings of flowers, candles and incense-sticks to lie at the feet of Buddha.

These symbolic offerings, called "Puja" are to remind devotees that just as the beautiful flowers would wither away after a short while, the candles and incense-sticks would soon burn out, so too is life subject to change, decay and destruction.

In Sri Lanka, all Buddhists endeavour to lead a noble life according to the "Dharma" by making daily affirmations to observe the Five Precepts.

However, on a special day like Vesak, they gather to temples dressed in simple white before dawn, where they observe "Sil", the Eight Precepts and spend whole day there.

Devotees take vegetarian meals for breakfast and lunch. During rest of the day they take only liquid foods such as tea, fruit juices and infusions till next morning. They spend whole night reading the teachings of Buddha and meditating.

The Vesak full moon day and the day after are set aside as public holidays in Sri Lanka.

All liquor shops and slaughter houses are closed during these holidays. Some followers release birds and animals, what is known as a 'symbolic act of liberation' to those who are in captivity.

In Sri Lanka, all other celebrations like "Perahera", "Bhakti Gee", "Dansala" and "Pandals" are taking place in the evening. Buddhist houses would be decorated with plenty of colorful lights, beautiful lanterns and they hoist the Buddhist flag.

All streets and roads would be decorated in the same way. People throng the streets in the evening to wonder these decorations and dazzling Pandals. These celebrations last normally for one week, or in some cases longer.

Vesak is celebrated in many different ways all over the world. Buddhism was assimilated into many different cultures as it was spreading out of India.

According to the Mahayana traditions, this festival is known by its Sanskrit name. Mahayana Buddhists observe these 3 events at three different times of the year. However, most of the time the Mahayana celebration of the Buddha's Birthday coincides with Vesak.

Buddha's Birthday is observed every year on April 8, according to the Gregorian calendar in Japan.

The Tibetan Buddhist equivalent of Vesak usually falls a month later. On these same full moon day of June, Sri Lanka celebrates "Poson", another Buddhist festival to celebrate the arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka.

In 1999, the United Nations has approved a resolution to observe the Vesak day internationally at its headquarters and offices.

The teachings of the Buddha is open to all to see and judge for themselves.

No matter to what lengths, increased scientific knowledge can extend man's mental horizon, there is room for the acceptance and assimilation for further discovery within the teachings of the Buddha.

Connecting With Nature on a Ranch Vacation

When it comes to vacations each year do you typically do the same thing? Do you go to a hotel, a beach, an amusement park or the relatives' houses? Do you get home listing all of the things you wish you would have done with the kids, with your spouse, or with your best friends and you think about going back? Well, vacation trips don't have to be a hassle or missed opportunity, you can set out to have a particular kind of trip with your family, friends, co-workers, or community group and fill your days with pre-registered activities so that you all won't miss a thing. Now the question is where will you go this year?

If you're thinking about having a particularly Western summer this year then a ranch vacation is a great option for you. And by Western we don't mean Western culture because the fact of the matter is that there are large and small areas of land in hundreds of countries that produce food and occasionally entertainment their own way. Yet there is a difference between a farm and a ranch. On one hand, a farm is typically seen as a place that cultivates the land in order to grow a variety of fruit, vegetables or grain from the earth as well as raise a particular type of animal for its fur, wool or flesh. On the other hand, a ranch is seen as where a family or corporation breeds and raises animals.

One of the main objectives of any ranch vacation is to interact with the variety of animals, birds and insects they have abound. It is an opportunity to connect with and appreciate your natural surroundings.

The view and landscape on some of America's oldest ranches are both relaxing and rejuvenating. You can select among them in order to find the right fit for your community organization's overnight trip, your family's week long trip or just an exploratory day adventure. You can have hands on experience with the duties of the ranch by contributing to the part of the ranch that is a working farm. You can walk the trails and go for a hike, meet the animals and learn about how your ranch vacation can teach you about where your food comes from and how ranches survive.

You can learn about the simple processes of milking a goat, sheering a sheep, feeding the chickens or collecting the eggs. You can go horseback riding, hiking or learn about the ranch processes. Regardless of how you choose to spend your days, you and the guests you visit with will be able to have a unique experience with nature that you'll never forget.

Your ranch Texas vacation is fun for the entire family. Book a stay with http://cibolocreekranch.com/

Top Welsh Castles Perfect for a Great Day Out

Wales is home to many attractions ideal for visiting on a fun day out, but it is its castles that are probably among the best. Hundreds of castles have been built in the country over the centuries, although significantly fewer still exist today.

Many of these are remarkably well preserved and offer a fantastic history lesson for visitors young and old. One of the most well-known castles is at Caernarfon, which can be found between mainland north Wales and Anglesey.

The building formed part of Edward I's famous Iron Ring, a group of castles erected by the monarch during his conquest of Wales. The area over which these fortresses are spread is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, giving you some idea of just how significant they are.

Caernarfon Castle was constructed in the 13th century over 50 years, and is notable for its towers, which are polygonal in shape rather than adopting the more traditional round style of the period. The Eagle Tower makes for a particularly impressive sight thanks to its huge girth, while other features of note include the high wall walks and the Royal Welch Fusiliers Regimental Museum.

Another of Wales's most famous fortifications is Caerphilly Castle, which occupies a striking location on an 'island' surrounded by multiple moats in the centre of Caerphilly. As the country's biggest castle, it's perhaps hard to believe that it was allowed to fall into disrepair several centuries after it was built by Gilbert de Clare, but - thankfully for visitors - it was bought and renovated following its purchase by the Marquess of Bute in the 18th century.

You'll be able to get a good idea of the nature of the popular wall-inside-walls layout that a lot of Welsh castles seemed to use in the Middle Ages as you walk around the site. You can also examine several replicas of siege engines, which are in working order.

If you're visiting Wales on a pleasant spring or summer day, it's well worth heading to Powis Castle. Originally built as a fortress to protect Powys's medieval princes from outside threats, the castle now contains an extensive collection of Indian artefacts, historic artworks and well-preserved furniture, some of which can be viewed in the striking Long Gallery.

However, it is Powis Castle's garden that you should explore to make the most of any fine weather you might be enjoying on your day out. The garden retains many of the features it had during the 1680s and is packed with sights to take in as you stroll around it, from statues and large Italianate rock terraces to a wide range of flowers and a 30 ft hedge.

Also keep an eye out for the 14 stumps at the eastern end of the main terrace, which are yew trees that have been clipped to resemble extremely large, oddly shaped domes. Don't miss the section of garden that was laid during the early 20th century, where you can indulge in a game of croquet.

Elsewhere, a break to the Brecon Beacons National Park will not be complete without paying a visit to Raglan Castle. Located on the edge of the park, the castle was constructed in the 15th century by Sir William ap Thomas with the aim of showing off his power and wealth in true style.

Surprisingly, his ornate home also managed to withstand a siege during the Civil War for more than three months, although it was subsequently destroyed by the government. However, you can still see plenty of its original features, both in the building itself and at the onsite visitor centre, including an original Tudor wood panel and an impressive oriel window.

Last but not least, Beaumaris Castle should be near the top of your list of castles to visit if you'd like to see a prime example of a particularly well-kept fortress. Located in Anglesey, the building is said to be the most technically perfect castle in Britain and formed part of Edward I's Iron Ring, although he ran out of the resources required to finish it once the war he was fighting intensified.

You'll be able to see many of the castle's most important features as you walk around it, including murder holes, a moat, a spiral tower and arrow slits. It's often dubbed a 13th-century spaceship due to the fact that it seemed to appear out of nowhere; in fact, the population of the nearby village of Llanfaes was abruptly moved to another town 14 miles away just to accommodate it!

Looking for ideas for fun, educational UK days out? Head to the Visit Wales website to find out more about the country's impressive castles - there's sure to be one perfect for you and your family!

Tuscany's Most Beautiful Churches

Italy's Tuscan region is filled with some of the world's oldest and most beautiful architecture. But, you'll find no architecture more beautiful than that of the many churches that are found throughout the region. Each small town and village offers at least one charming church, rich with history and beauty.

Florence, Pisa Chianti and Montepulciano are some of the most visited areas in Tuscany. Villas are located both inside these towns and along the countryside adjacent to them, making it easy to have privacy and comfort while enjoying the area.

In Florence, you'll find the Duomo, the town's most important cathedral. It is one of the most dominating features of the city. The cathedral offers a beautiful representation of 7th century Gothic architecture. You'll also find the Church of the Holy Cross (Santa Croce), a Franciscan structure that is the burial place of Michelangelo, Machiavelli and Rossini. There is also a Baptistery dedicated to St. John the Baptist, along with eight other churches in the town. Florence offers more churches than any other town in Tuscany. Villas nearby often sell out early during the tourist season, because of the huge numbers of visitors that flock to Florence each year.

Pisa is, of course, home to the world famous Leaning Tower. But, it is also home to the Square of Miracles, where you'll find the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore. In fact, many people don't realize that the famous Leaning Tower is actually the bell tower of the church. The church and adjacent baptistery both represent impressive examples of Romanesque architecture. Though frequented by many tourists each year, Pisa is actually one of the smaller towns in Tuscany. Villas for rental are mostly located outside the small town centre, but they offer a convenient way to see the city and enjoy the countryside at the same time.

Chianti is one of the most famous areas in Tuscany. Villas in this area offer the opportunity to have an impressive view of the many vineyards that line the roads. Chianti is, of course, most noted for being one of Italy's most important wine regions. But, Chianti is also made up of some of the prettiest towns in Italy. When in the Chianti region, be sure to visit the town of Barberino Val d'Elsa and the Church of St. Bartholomew. The church is one of the newer ones you'll find in the region, having been built in 1910. However, it is home to a stunning fresco from the 14th century. Not far outside the city is Semifonte, home to the Church of Sant Appiano and the Chapel of St. Michael. Both of these churches are quite beautiful.

In Montepulciano, you're sure to be impressed by the medieval architecture, and the view from this little hilltop town. But, you'll also be impressed by the two beautiful churches here. The first is the Church of Sant Agostino, designed by an artist who worked for the Medici family, who controlled and established the town. There is a crucifix in the church attributed to Donatello. The Church of Santa Maria dei Servi is also in the town, as is the Church of San Biagio, one of the most impressive examples of Renaissance art.

It would be nearly impossible to visit all the beautiful churches in this region, particularly in one visit. But, beginning with these churches in these beautiful areas, is a wonderful way to start.
