How to Save on a Disneyland Vacation

Ah the happiest place on earth... and the most expensive. Well it can be a little less painful witha few pointers!

Let me start by saying I know a Disney vacation is never going to be cheap. It costs money to go, even if you live within driving distance.

Tickets

Keep your eyes peeled for promotions for tickets. In 2009 and 2010, they did promotions for free tickets! They have not done those in the past couple of years though. Also, military members get a SIGNIFICANT discount and can buy up to 6 tickets at the discounted price. Also, they occasionally run small price break specials. For example, from January 2012 through May 2012, they offered a $20 price break on a 3-day park hopper ticket. It's not much, but it's definitely something you don't want to miss!

To get the most value for your ticket purchase, visit the part at a non-peak time. You'll spend less time waiting in line and more time experiencing the attractions. You may even be able to see everything you want in 1 day less, meaning you can buy a less expensive ticket!

2 More things to note about tickets:

- It is ALWAYS better to buy your tickets online at Disneyland.com than to buy them at the gate.

- Make sure you are buying your tickets from a legit source!

Food

Something that you should know right away is that you can bring just about any reasonable food item into Disneyland. Except glass. We have brought plastic juice bottles, canned sodas, energy drinks, sandwiches, plastic peanut butter jars and more into the park. Take advantage of this! Trying to find a decent meal inside the park will cost you around $8-$10 per person!

There are a couple of places you can get a decent deal on food inside the park, but your best bet is to eat OUTSIDE the park or bring your own food in. We recommend stuffing yourself right before you go, and then bringing a meal. The less time you spend outside the park dealing with food issues, the more bang for your buck you'll get on your ticket purchase.

Lodging

The key here is to use a good mapping system and find out which hotels/motels are actually as close to the park as they advertise. Many hotels will say "2 blocks from the park" or something like that. When you get there, you realize that ONE block is almost 3/4 of a mile! Some of these motels so called "1 block away" are a 30 minute walk, one way! There are a lot of good motels/hotels close enough though, just make sure you can see it on a map how close it really is.

There you have it! Like I said at the beginning, a Disneyland vacation will never be cheap. However, you can use the tips in this article to save you a lot of money when you do take that Disney vacation.
