Malaga has taken the top position for British holidaymakers, according to figures received from a popular internet flight search engine, skyscanner. More British people are searching for flights to Malaga than to New York, which topped the list last year. Spain has proven to be popular in general, with six Spanish cities appearing in the top ten destinations. As well as Malaga holding the number one slot, Spain can be proud to also have the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions. Faro in Portugal was also well sought after and was the second most popular destination. Alicante was third, with Palma de Mallorca fourth; Tenerife was fifth; Ibiza following along in sixth position and Barcelona flights taking the seventh place.
Not only is Spain a top destination for visitors from the UK, it has also attracted interest on a worldwide scale. Of the top 100 destinations for internet flight searches, Barcelona, Madrid and Malaga Airports were the second, eighth and ninth most popular searches.
These findings refer to 2011 and come as welcome news in times when the recession in Spain purports all to be doom and gloom. The pull of the warm climate, long golden beaches and lowering prices have made Spain irresistible to huge numbers of travellers. Spain just has a special little something about it that keeps on drawing in tourists and attracts more and more people to make it their permanent home.
